We have been lazy the past few weeks. Normally, every Sunday morning we like to bring you the gaming deals for the upcoming week for stores like Circuit City, Best Buy, Target and on occasion Toys R Us. This week, we are bringing you a gaming deals update that is sort of an end of an era. A couple of weeks ago, a massive retailer decided to close it's doors.
Citcuit City's website currently reads, "Circuit City would like to thank all of the customers who have shopped with us over the past 60 years. Unfortunately, we announced on January 16, 2009, that we are going out of business."
They are going to layoff more than 30 thousand employees too. Their retail outlets around the country are now having liquidation sales. However, we DO NOT recommend you go and buy anything from them as of yet. You will likely NOT find any good deals. Sure, you will see things that are 10% off, but that is after everything in the store is marked UP to MSRP. Less knowledgeable people are the ones now buying up all the stuff at inflated prices. So wait a few weeks, then hit their stores and try to find something worthwhile.
Now lets reminisce a moment. I remember sometime in the early 80s being in a Circuit City store in Columbia, South Carolina. This was when the Intellivision was first coming out. I am talking about the larger original Intellivision, not the Intellivision II. They had a display model up with NFL Football in the game. I was a little guy back then and did not exactly know how to call the plays. I however, remember pushing buttons on both controllers until a play was called for the offense and defense. Likewise, I remember some employees of Circuit City being astonished that I could figure things out. This machine was quite expensive at the time. It retailed for $299. Somehow, I managed to get one for Christmas one year. This amazes me to this day as my parents did not have a whole lot of money at that time. Being a new father, I now know a lot of parents will do what it takes to make their kids happy. I never asked for much growing up but when I did, I usually got what I wanted.
Now this news article is getting a little off topic but I am going to continue anyways. I would like to thank my mom and dad for all they gave me in life including the opportunity to be successful which I think I am. My dad passed away in 2005 so he won't be able to read this with his eyes. He was a special person as he was not my biological father but treated me like I was his own. He adopted me and gave me more than I ever asked for.
I have a friend that is doing the same thing right now. He is about to adopt a boy in the next couple of weeks. It takes a special kind of person to take someone else's child into their home and treat them like their own. I don't know if that is something I could do. I surely respect those that can.
So, as I close this post, lets have a moment of silence for Circuit City. Likewise, lets be grateful for all the wonderful people out there that take care of children that are not their own.
